Kamila Pacholek was an Undergraduate Psychology student at Ryerson University, and completed her Honours thesis with Dr. Becky Choma in the Social and Political Psychology lab at Ryerson from 2015-2016. Little research has focused more specifically on attitudes toward Muslim women even though wearing a veil (often considered an indicator of being Muslim) can cue prejudice. Hence, Kamila’s research focused specifically on attitudes towards women wearing the veil (hijab or niqab). In her research she explored how intergroup anxiety and intergroup disgust sensitivity (ITG-DS), ideological beliefs, and contact affect attitudes. Kamila was also a research assistant in the lab during the summer of 2016, and is now continuing to collaborate with Dr. Choma on research examining attitudes toward Muslim women.
