Elvira Prusaczyk was a past Honours thesis student with Dr. Becky Choma. She was recently awarded an NSERC undergraduate student research award by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Her thesis examined self-objectification (the habitual monitoring of one’s physical appearance) and its application to skin bleaching in ethnically diverse women. Specifically, the research investigated whether skin tone surveillance predicts skin bleaching and whether endorsing beliefs that protect hierarchical social arrangements change these relations. Elvira is currently doing her MA in social psychology at Brock University with Dr. Gordon Hodson (Lab Website).
